Nurse Practitioner
Joy Lauerer, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist with prescriptive authority, specializing in child and adolescent mental health. With over 25 years of experience, Joy has treated individuals ranging from preschoolers to young adults. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from The University of Alabama.
Joy’s expertise lies in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of mental health disorders in children and adolescents. Known for her creative and strengths-based approach, she works collaboratively with families to develop effective strategies for managing difficult transitions and challenging behaviors. Often, families seek her guidance to create tailored interventions for addressing behavioral concerns, relying on her experience and compassionate care.
In addition to her clinical practice, Joy has served as a faculty member at The Medical University of South Carolina, where she taught psychiatric nurse practitioner students. She has advanced training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology.
Outside of work, Joy is an avid gardener and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family. She is married, has one daughter, and is the proud grandmother of two soon to be three granddaughters.

Joy Lauerer is an in-network provider with Medical Mutual and Paramount HMO/PPO/Marketplace insurance plans. She is not an in-network provider for Paramount Advantage/Elite.
