Dr. Salpietro is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.
She is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida and conducts her sessions online via a secure, HIPAA-compliant program. Dr. Salpietro holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ohio University, a Master of Arts in Counselor Education with a Clinical Mental Health Concentration from the University of Toledo (UToledo), and Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education from UToledo. She has extensive experience working with survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking as well as expertise in treating adolescents, college-aged adults, and adults living with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, low self-esteem, and life changes. She is passionate about working with individuals who identify as LGBTGEQIAP+, multicultural populations, individuals of varying ability and disability statuses, and individuals who live with chronic illness/pain.
Dr. Salpietro has a vast knowledge of theoretical counseling approaches and evidence-based practices that she employs to ensure that her clients are receiving individualized care that is congruent with their learning and coping styles. Dr. Salpietro’s warm, humorous approach to the therapeutic relationship helps to cultivate an environment of acceptance, vulnerability, and personal-growth. She considers counseling to be a collaborative process and hopes that she and her clients can learn, struggle, and grow together.
In her time as a professional counselor, Dr. Salpietro has been honored with various awards, grants, and fellowships. In 2018 she was selected as the North Central Association of Counselor Education and Supervision’s Emerging Leader and in 2019 was awarded the Graduate Student of the Year Award. She has received multiple grants to fund her research and was selected as an Editorial Fellow for Counselor Education & Supervision, one of the counseling profession’s top peer-reviewed journals.
In her free time, Dr. Salpietro enjoys conducting research, reading Harry Potter, and watching The Office and Game of Thrones. She values time spent with her family and friends, as well as her three cats, Beau, Zoey, and Huey.
